Since I'm actually trying to maintain some semblance of a Lenten observance this year, I've given up a few things. Non-essential uses of the Internet among them. Meaning if I want to see this thread, I have to post it a few days before Ash Wednesday!
Good luck! I'm sure I do without the Internet if I wanted to, but I definitely wouldn't want to.1. Do you observe Lent?
I do.2. Why (not)?
I observe everything. Also, it has religious significance.3. What does your observance of Lent typically entail? Giving things up, taking things on, or something else?
Usually some of each.4. What's the hardest thing you've ever given up/taken on/something else?
I gave up meat for Lent once. I'm usually carnivorous, so that was hard.5. What, if anything, are you planning to do for observing Lent this year?
I will be joining a Lenten Bible study. I have also decided to do something highly specific. I am giving up eating alone. So I will fast or I will socialize, either one of which will be good for me.6. Do you observe Sundays as feast days (and as such, exempt from fasting/abstinence), considering that the 40 days between Ash Wednesday and Holy Saturday don't include Sundays?
No, but I actually didn't know that.Six is a good number. I'll stop here.
Yes it is.

I'm actually looking forward to it. I'm quite good at not doing something if I have a reason.

That's still on the books for Episcopalians, if I recall correctly, but as an option.

I'm not a Christian, but I've given things up in the name of Lent.

Is it weird that I really like Lent?

Perhaps it is. But, less so than lint, I'm thinking.

I actually do enjoy cleaning lint traps in the dryer. It's fun! *NM*

The question that comes to my mind is....

And there's another huge difference between abstinence and self-denial.
