I can't tell you much, except that my mom lost so much weight on the South Beach Diet while I was on vacation for a month I was stunned by the difference when I hugged her after returning. Plus her sugars stabilized at a health level, which is important given she's diabetic. Mediterranean is supposed to be pretty healthy, too, in part because it's antioxidant rich, but I can't say from personal experience. I suspect a lot has to do with genetics and metabolism in addition to relative activity levels, but you probably know more about that than I.
