I suppose if you were christian and became atheist, you'd be "losing" God, but an atheist wouldn't see it that way. How can you remove something that does not exist? Furthermore, how is it your business if someone decides to remove something they see as false and fictional from their own life?

Just because you don't believe in God, doesn't mean that God doesn't exist. What you are loosing is hope in something greater than our world. What you are loosing is a moral foundation for making decisions in your life. What you are loosing is heaven.

Whether or not you want to acknowledge these things is totally up to you, but atheism is nothing more than a negative or anti belief...not a positive or pro belief. Look at its very basis...it gives nothing, but takes everything. Even by the very way that its spelled out in english. Theism is the belief (rather abstractly) in God. Putting that "a" in front of the word negates the "theism". Its a negative....hence it takes away.

~Jeordam

Uh....? Since when is not believing in something that cannot be seen, felt, or heard taking away everything and denying yourself eternal existence? A lot of us "atheists" as you loving religious folk deem to call us (frankly, I have no label, because labeling myself an atheist signifies I know there is a god and I deny it...which is definitely NOT what I do whatsoever). I believe in humanism. There is no higher power that is going to come back and save you once you die and your thoughts cease for eternity; there is no special VIP pad for people like you that subject the rest of the world to discrimination, lack of tolerance and understanding, and everything else that comes in the "benefits package" of religion. This is my main problem with religious people: if you need to believe that your life means something, and that all of your burning bridges and setting up yourselves as superior to us "unlearned" ones, then do so...but don't ruin existence in the NOW for the rest of us. Please, stop destroying the environment, inspiring fear to those not like you, and destroying the happiness of anyone that is slightly different in the name of some mythological entity. God did not put you here to put animals in factory farms, to burn down the rain forests, to exterminate thousands of species every year, to pollute the air, and eventually kill this world. If you look at history, which I hope you do at some point, you will see how the rubbish you believe to be true is the same useless rubbish that has been recycled from time on end, ad nosium, from culture to culture like some torch being passed from hand to hand in a never ending race where nobody has a chance of winning, but everyone is able to lose.
