I didn't plan on watching it Amys Send a noteboard - 29/01/2010 04:52:05 AM
I myself could not bring myself to watch. The President makes every single stupid issue into a major speech, and talks and talks and talks. It doesn't matter what he says anymore. He doesn't do shit, so I could care less what he says.

But I was at an elder friend's place and she watched. It was interesting listening to a lady I hold in the highest regard and think much of her insights and intelligence have a completely different view of Obama. She loves Obama. She did bring up some interesting points though; being 70 this year she never thought the US would elect an African American into the White House, she liked this frank discussion on most topics but she didn't think him too informed about renewable energy.
While watching I wondered how many people are enthralled? This is blatantly a show. Last evenings speech contained more of vague references to Americans that had written letters to the White House. Where is the concrete solution? And why is the USA now defined as a middle class family? The speech oozed remarks stating that the middle class American family needs to be helped. And really, how feasible are some of the ideas? To openly attack any branch of the federal government reeks of playground antics. Those are to be left behind in grade school. Does Obama think that by openly provoking the GOP, while at another point saying they would always have some fundamental differences, will aid him in the long run?
In conclusion, I feel this was another play of smoke and mirrors. When it comes down to getting dirty and really reforming (not making concessions because the parties have to), I don't think Obama and the rapport he has with the other branches of the Federal government will be able to complete the grandioso visions (all I think would like to believe in) but is unfeasible in reality. One prime example is Health Care. At the basis why not thoroughly and objectively research why people have the states of health they do. Too much in our society is based on the immediate fix. Why not teach everyone when they are young to indulge moderately. If you can't have something without it affecting your health negatively; then don't do it.
Now I shall cease.

Peace & All,
Amanda

P.S. Tom will you be having a separate book list for the budding reader, or if we start seeing Dr. Suess. . . . ?
