We totally need open primaries; it's undemocratic not to have them. Joel Send a noteboard - 27/01/2010 08:53:29 PM
But, y'know, he's a Baptist preacher and doesn't believe in evolution, which immediately translates into banning it from schools and training elite commando squads to track down and eliminate rogue 10th grade science teachers.

If the citizens of my country on BOTH sides get any stupider they won't be able to read my comments on how stupid they are.

If instead of separate primaries for Dems and Republicans, there were open primaries in the country, Huckabee might actually have gotten a shot at the presidency. But he was never going to capture the Republican nomination, so, well.

If they're going to treat "Republican nominee" and "Democratic nominee" as two different jobs, why shouldn't each of us have an equal say in both? If I vote in one primary and the guy nominated in the other wins the general election, is his authority in office any less binding on me? Not to mention it would put an end to the gamesmanship of "so-and-so has the nomination locked up, so I'm going to go over here and try to nominate someone who can't win for the other party. " Of course, you realize this all leads back to my second statement, right? In all honesty though it did seem to me most of the "base" preferred Huckabee (or Paul) because they knew McCain was only going to be "right" long enough to get nominated and then backpedal at Warp 9. Huckabee just didn't have the financial resources McCain did (a wholly different flaw that needs to be fixed) but I believe he may be working on that....
