you do realize the saints were #2 in takeaways this year?

I think creating turnovers are great and teams should try to do it but I think you need to be able to win without them.
Now the fact that the Saints have 13-3 season and they are going to the Superbowl takes away from my argument to large degree but I still think it is too unreliable of a strategy to rely on. I would prefer a defense that can reliably stop the other offense and force them to punt to one who gives up a lot of yards and hopes to be able to create a turnover.
Of course be able to do both would be ideal.

second only to the packers in takeaways over the course of the entire season. i'd say it's been a part of their game plan all along, and the reason they rely on it is because it's worked for them for the most part. i don't think they draw their game plan up expecting to get the takeaways, but you could tell the way they played last night that getting the takeaway was a huge priority especially after the 3rd time the vikings fumbled the ball.

Because of the chessgame; you put in defensive personnel based on who's in the huddle.

I really though Minnesota had the better team, but with all those fumbles it's hard to say that now.

Well, the better team doesn't always win (Just ask the 2007-08 Patriots )
