Having to buy health insurance in the state where you live is not a gentlemans agreement it is law. The insurance industry is regulated but most of the regualtions are done at the sate level. There is one of those rare cases where I believe the regulation needs to be done at a national level. Having 50 different sets of rules adds unneeded cost to the system.
Or do you really think 50 state legislatures decided it was in their citizens best interest to establish a monopoly by state law (and never mind federal anti-trust law; it's doesn't apply to insurance, for SOME reason.... ) This is one of those typical cases where if either the government or corporations are allowed to get much more power than the other the stronger will take control.
