and again, what would you have them do? Such studies are often reliant on interviews and it's just something you have to live with and take into account.
Ask the parents how they did it. At least they're old enough to remember.
Or even better: Longitudinal study, ask the parents once a year from the kids are born and then start asking both groups as the kids grow older. That might also give interesting data on the differences in what parents and children report.
