I got offered this job, and when I applied for it, I was told that the hours were second shift. Not ideal, but I could live with it. When I interviewed for it, however, they told me that the shifts actually change every day. They move ahead two hours (and are also ten-hour shifts). So one day, I'd be working noon to 10:00 pm, the next day 2:00 to midnight, then 4:00 to 2:00 am, and finally 6:00 to 4:00 am.
I think the only way I'd be able to handle it is if I treated it as two separate shifts. Get up at 11 and go to bed at 1 for the first two days, then sleep in til 3, and go to bed at five for the next two, then recover over the weekend.
As for my odd shifts... I'm working security now, and until they find me a permanent site, I'm a floater. What that means is that I take shifts as they become available, all over the city and surrounding area. This has led to me doing things like working a twelve hour shift from 8:30am to 8:30 pm, going to sleep right after eating, then getting up for a twelve hour shift from 4am to 4pm, then working midnight to 8am the next two nights. Recovery over the weekend seems to work for me.
