"Lastly, many home audiences maintain a phonograph to intersperse favorite selections with the sometimes unattractive features of radio broadcasting programs. "

Just because it's brand new doesn't mean we can't put ads on it. ;)

You should come to my house. I have hard bound collections of Time from about a month before FDR died up until the early fifties, and, yes, you'd be surprised at what can be found there. Thus my first thought on 911 was "it's like when that B-25 hit the Empire State Building. " It wasn't, of course, because that was an accident, but that it happened in the middle of WWII (some initially thought it a Japanese kamikaze attack) should've been a big heads up for the government. Their coverage of John L. Lewis' coal miners strike in 1946 (when the nation was almost completely dependent on coal and still in war time rationing) and the widespread outrage provided lasting insight into how the Taft-Hartley Act came to be.

And Miscellany... Miscellany was awesome, still better than anything Leno could find on his best day:

"Brother Rat. In Madison, Wis., Mrs. Charles H. Showers, strolling along in a muskrat coat, was twice bitten by an enraged muskrat. "
