I got offered this job, and when I applied for it, I was told that the hours were second shift. Not ideal, but I could live with it. When I interviewed for it, however, they told me that the shifts actually change every day. They move ahead two hours (and are also ten-hour shifts). So one day, I'd be working noon to 10:00 pm, the next day 2:00 to midnight, then 4:00 to 2:00 am, and finally 6:00 to 4:00 am.
I worry about this. I can handle second and even third shifts as long as the hours stay consistent, but these "moving shifts" seem like they'd really f*ck up my internal clock and turn me into Zombie Woman. I worry I might not be able to handle them. But I really need to take this job, because I'm unemployed now and my severence package has run out, and if I don't take this job, I'd have to go on unemployment, which I don't want.
So, I'm wondering, has anyone here ever had to work shifts that changed every day? If so, how did you handle it? I'm just wondering what I should expect and if taking this job means I'll have to sequester my cranky self away from humanity from now on
As ambulance man we had 24 hour shifts. In best case that meant you slept all night at the station. In worst case it meant the alarm went off seven times a night. Either way, we were able to go home at 7 next morning Plus only only had this kinda shift once or twice a week.
So, what kinda job is this? Would this spread into the weekend as well? Being a night owl, I could get used to it, I guess. And on weekdays I do nothing but work, sleep and sit on my lappy/xbox anyway. I can see how this would be difficult for some people though. Still, it's a job, right?

Has anyone here had any experience working odd hours/shifts at your job?
