I did my little routine when I got home. Pour drink, take off jacket, sip drink, take off boots. Look at boots, boot are a bit dusty, get brush, brush them off while sipping drink. Stare at boots, look up at uniform, remember suddenly that I will never wear either ever again. Last day, done.
It was a bit surreal when I took off my dog tags, I've gotten so used to them that I don't even take them off to sleep anymore, but I took them off and put them on the dresser. I always wear my watch too, so I took it off then reminded myself I still need it, realize I have this wide tan line from wearing it all the time. Set it to AM/PM instead of the military time it has always displayed, put it back on, finish drink, take a shower, boots go in closet, uniform into the hamper, tags into a drawer. My cat reminds me that he's still waiting for his dinner. Feed cat, feel lazy, microwave food, eat food, check email, write this message, will go sit in favorite and heavily worn chair with another drink and a book I've been meaning to read for a while now, probably be joined by cat.
Tomorrow morning I don't need to shave, I don't need to wake up at the crack of dawn and make coffee. I wonder if I'll do both out of habit.

The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.

It sounds like it was done well. Make sure to at least not shave for one day.
