What a frightening piece six months after 911.

The author attempts to show why the Republic modeled on the Roman one is bad and the Empire so modeled good, in the implied but never stated service of proving why an American Empire would be superior to the American Republic. Thus Palpatines manipulative declarations to Amidala and Anakin of the Republics failings become his noble innermost thoughts, and forcing his most loyal servant to duel his own son to the death for the title becomes "assassination. " Star Wars becomes not the tribute to the Jewish rebellion against Rome intended, but a justification for America in an emergency granting a dictator absolute power for a brief time and finally for life as the Roman Republic once did.
As reasons why 300 million people should obey every word that leaves the lips of one of them go, I've seen better.

Jonathan V. Last could do with a good game of Dungeons and Dragons.

It should have been fairly easy from the Empire's perspective, too.

You would think that, but Dantooine is also mentioned in a previous reply.

Yeah, but they were probably all Unionized, so it's sort of crappy either way. *NM*

He should have done the creation of the Roman Empire instead of Star Wars.

If you include Vespasian and Titus in "the creation of the Roman Empire," sure, I guess.
