It was not the same thing as moussaka. It did have meat sauce, but no cream sauce. I think I might try moussaka soon. Sounds like lots of steps though.
Other than that, it's not truly that many steps - I'm horribly inefficient due to a total lack of kitchen experience , but if you're any good at coordinating and timing, it's probably no more than half an hour or so of work before putting the whole thing in the oven.
Cheese sauce takes minutes to make. Cook flour in butter for a minute, pour in hot milk while stirring madly, continue to stir for a minute, add handfuls of grated cheesy goodness until melted. Salt and pepper liberally. My work here is done.
EDIT: Heat some slices of onion, a bay leaf, some black peppercorns and maybe a blade of mace in the milk while you cook the flour in the butter. Do not add them to the sauce
