disease management is the biggest one

I'm not saying don't buy free range. I'm just saying it's far from perfect itself.

That and "free range" is ill-defined and no where near "bunch of chickens running around in a pretty field"


disease management in a TRUE free range place is much better than with what you mention as the regulatory term "free range". Cause I know several farmers who grow their birds (chickens, geese, turkeys and ducks) truly free range, and they don't have a disease problem. They run around in a pretty field.

what the usda has made the industry able to do for "free range" and "organic" hens is a complete farce, and really burns me up.
