Who sets their phone so a text wakes them up? 
I keep my phone on ring 24/7 (vibrate if I'm at school or a movie or something like that). I purposefully turn it up LOUD at night. Why? Because if someone needs me or if something happens with one of my horses, I want to be woken.
So am I just asking for it?
I really don't think it's too much to ask for people to not text me at 2am anything less than an emergency, request for help, or need-to-know-now info, particularly since I'm well known to be very fond of my sleep.
If you sent the text at a reasonable hour, no, not your bad in the slightest.
If you sent some inane text message at 3 in the morning? Yah. bad on you.
Can't you set it so it rings for a call but is silent for texts? Society still seems to agree that there's an acceptable range of time in which to call people except in cases of emergency...

Their fault. If they don't want to be woken, they can bloody well turn their phone off.

depending on what time you sent the text, it may or may not be your fault.
