Let's not mince words: this guy is obviously a hardcore Conservative. But he raises some interesting points about protests, democracy, and the attitudes of many environmentalists. For the record, this is from one of my local newspapers: the Edmonton Sun. Link at the end.
Spoiled Green Mob.

I've seen political mobs at work many times over the years. They are bullies, anti-democrats and embody many of the aspects of historic fascism.

Rather than bowing to the often frustrating but ultimately civilized electoral process, they attempt to promote their views through dominating the majority and using physical violence.

As such they run directly contrary to Canadian freedoms and decency.

Such a political mob was what we saw Monday when more than 100 climate change zealots tried to storm the House of Commons in Ottawa because, they believed, their views and concerns were more important and more authentic than anybody else's.

Arrogant, spoiled and over-privileged. Rather than working hard to have their representatives elected to the Parliament, they disrupted, they screamed and shouted just as I'm sure they did when mum, dad or, perhaps, nanny didn't give them what they wanted.

The 10 dozen people who did not seem to have jobs to do or, likely, lectures to attend could afford to behave differently from people with real responsibilities and took advantage of the generosity and trust of the parliamentary officials who were taking them on a tour of our great democratic palace.

In a socialist state, which doubtless many of them desire, they would never have been allowed so close to their leaders. The assembly, if it existed at all, would have been composed of yes-men and have no opposition.

So it was thuggery, ingratitude and political stupidity. Real change in this country should come about when you manage to calmly convince the majority of Canadians that your policies are worth supporting.

But just one moment. Surely the New Democrats among the hooligans, and there were many, already knew this. One of their leaders certainly did as he was clearly identified as a delegate to the NDP conference in Halifax earlier this year.

So if his party can only receive the backing of 13% of the people, his response is to spit on the votes of Canadians and shout down the democratic assembly they sent to Ottawa.

It's significant that NDP Leader Jack Layton was speaking in the chamber at the time it was disrupted and simply continued to speak. Most often when such interruptions take place the person standing and speaking sits down and waits for decorum to be restored. Goodness, it was almost as if Jack was not at all surprised by what was going on and expected it!

There are numerous issues about which we all care. Issues of life and death, persecution, suffering. What distinguishes us from these childish hoodlums is that we respect a system that people have died to achieve. We want to give examples to our children of political decorum and tolerance of contrary views.

And speaking of children, it is stunning how many of the most active and loud climate change fanatics are childless or have only one child.

Those with the most to lose because they have more children and thus more love for the future seem the most balanced on this issue.
