As a general rule far to many people in the UK certainly, attend university. They do worthless subjects and run up massive debts to end up in a job they could have started 4 years ago.
If you want to do a job and that job requires a degree, it makes sense. If you just want the experience of university and are willing to rattle up the debts for that experience, then makes sense.
If you just want to get on and start work, maybe do an apprenticeship or become a trainee, or start your own venture...then go do it and skip university. Too many people are dragged into this "university is for everyone marketing", when the truth is it is not, and such an attitude is rapidly devaluating university degrees.
