If I overreacted and beat up another straight guy for hitting on my sister, that's more acceptable than if I overreacted and beat up a gay guy for hitting on my brother?

Seems like I as a straight person am being discriminated against, being told that my well-being is worth less. Same goes for all hate-crime legislation.

It's one thing to question whether these sorts of laws are effective in achieving their purported aims. It's quite another to imagine you're being discriminated against because you don't fit the description of a group of people who are often discriminated against.

Should you get straight-bashed, you're covered. Maybe you could just be happy that it's exceedingly unlikely to happen.
