Thats not at all what I'm saying TheCrownless Send a noteboard - 20/10/2009 12:40:28 AM
...except you said it much more nicely than I would have!

As a person who has chosen to not have children, I hate it when people think that parents should have special treatment. That I'm expected to take the shit schedules 'cause I don't have kids to put on or get off the bus.

Once, at my former job, there was a situation in which another worker or I would have to travel to the other side of the state for a couple of days. Neither of us wanted to go. The other worker kept complaining that since he and his wife recently adopted a baby, he shouldn't have to go. He actually followed me through the office trying to make me feel guilty, suggesting that I should volunteer to go because of his baby. I finally told him that he should have thought of these situations before he went out a bought a baby. Heh...guess I could have been a bit more tactful...

I have no problem with parental leave; I get it that new parents want to spend time with their spawn. But while the happy little family is busy bonding away, someone else has to cover their work. That someone ends up being me, at least for a bit of it, and with no extra money. As my workload increases, my sympathy for parents decreases.

That is different, thats "bonding time", I'm not talking about that. I agree people shouldn't use children as an excuse, but during the first few weeks of a new child there are a lot of sleepless nights, this is clearly a temporary thing.
If someone is making excuses because they have children then thats wrong, but the physical effects of childbirth and the resulting few weeks on both the men and women (women obviously more) is something most good companies are aware of and make alloweances for, Lurkers company is behind McDonalds and Burger King in it's employee rights standards.
Come to the dark side, We have candy!

I'm Israel, he's Palestine, its more fun when you pick sides.
