I'm sorry but you are wrong. It is the third greatest melt on record.

Are these the same scientists who had said earlier it was probably going to be ice-free this year?
2007 has the biggest melt followed by 2008 and 2009.
The US National Snow and Ice Data Center in Colorado reported that the 2009 melt saw the Arctic ice cap shrink to 5.1 million square kilometres (1.97 million square miles) by mid-September, before beginning to expand again. This puts 2009 third behind 2008 and 2007’s record year for ice-cap melt. But minimum ice cover was still 20 per cent less this year than the 30-year average since satellite monitoring began in 1979.
Furthermore,
The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has reported, meanwhile, that the June-August ocean surface temperature average reached 16.95 degrees Celsius (62.5 deg. Fahrenheit), the highest since records began in 1880. The combined land and ocean surface temperature for the same period was the third-warmest on record.
Not to mention that if you look at ice thickness, the amount of melt continues to increase. The volume of ice has decreased and continues to decrease.
Oh...by the way...we may have been wrong about that whole "Global Warming" thing
