We don't have the receipt anymore!! Today I was going through our checking account when I noticed the Chili's bill form last week was nearly $10 higher than we signed off on. The waiter got a VERY large tip and since we don't have the receipt we can't prove it! GRRR! keep your receipts!

For a pre-authorization the system adds a set % onto your bill when you pay with a card. It can take a good amount of time for the bill to finalize in your account balance. I've had it happen before where I would look at my statement a couple of days after going to a restaurant and the amount on the card was way higher than the amount I put on the card....I called about it one time and that's what they told me. A few days later the amount went to what I actually put on the card and all was fine. After that I kept an eye out on it to see if they were just full of it, and it was actually accurate...the system adds a certain amount to what you pay as a pre-authorization, and then finalizes it several days later.
