A Cowboys coach did use that phrase once but it was hardly invited by them. The phrase "how about them blank" has been around a long time and have nothing to do with Joel's deranged attitude where the owner of the Cowboys and his comments should in no way be seen as factual. Mostly likely the phrase originated in WWI as "how did you them apples" where apples were the bombs they were lobbing at the Germans.
