The idea is to avoid spoiling the Vader = father reveal for the ten or so people who have lived under a rock their entire lives, and then to explore how Vader became Vader. I don't hold the prequels in particularly high regard, so I would rather people just watch the "space wizards with laser swords" original trilogy that talks about the Force in vague, mystical terms before going to the prequel trilogy that dissects and explains everything and manages to kill the wonder of Star Wars.
