If you could only choose one. I would say, 1 or 3. I think 3 was the best "stand alone" story, but the magic of 1 is still pretty cool. Book 4-7 were outstanding, but more serious and part of the bigger picture.

I could probably knock out books 1-3 together. Definitely at least the first two. Agreed with your assessment of the later books.
