View original postSo then if/when you have a friend who is anorexic, and they finally give in and reach for something to eat, do you slap it out of their hand? Do you tell them to not give in, but to pursue their actions so that their body can match their mind?
View original postNo. You'd never do that. You'd help your friend get to a healthy place.
If my friend were physically starving him/herself, I would try to get him to understand that eating is what keeps him alive, yes. I'm sorry, but I don't understand why you think that's a relevant comparison. Not conforming to society's idea of gender doesn't mean someone is ill, and it doesn't starve him to death. If that person came to me and said that he felt he WAS sick and he felt fitting into proper gender roles was the solution, then yes, I'd help him figure out how to make that work.
View original postThis whole conversation pertains to why is this specific topic different. No one has been able articulate why besides the individual wants it real bad, and the effort to help their mind align with reality is less then just giving them what they want.
We've all told you repeatedly that it's because, in and of itself, self-identification is not dangerous to the person or others. Why shouldn't someone have something they "want real bad"*, as long as it does nothing to anyone else?
*I don't think they just want it; I think it is how things are for them, but we are unlikely to agree and I don't feel like arguing any more.
