Con men do sometimes win.

What is a con?

1) A con is a swindle where you try to convince someone something that is factually not true, is to be true.

Like your repeated attempts to sell yourself as a dispassionate and objective commenter, who just so happens to keep coming down on the same side?
2) It uses a mixture of appeals to emotions,

Si se puede! Hope! Change! Mah husband is the victim of a vast right wing conspiracy!
cognitive capture (you controlling their attention and controlling the narrative),

Which is pretty easy when 90% of the newsmedia personnel admit to voting for your party.
and confidence.

What do you call Moondog's original post?

I have lived in a manipulative family that have tried such bullshit to their own goals at the expense of other family members.
I thought they were Mexicans? Why are you opposed to keeping them out if that's true?
I have also worked at a sales job where they tried to teach high pressure sales tactics (boiler plate stuff) in order to optimize the most profit they could extract from each customer.
First the confidence man brings up a bit of unverifiable personal information to get your sympathy. Then he gives something that passes for credentials, so he can claim some sort of expertise or authority.
Personally I loathe all of this shit,
Now he pretends to share some personal feelings, so you think he's opening up to, and you want to reciprocate by giving him your trust.
and when I see it, I notice almost instantly what they are trying to do, and I have a counter-response where I do not want to get pulled in.

He denies responsibility for whatever unpleasant thing he is about to say, or makes some similar claim to not want to do or say it, so the mark will not think he has any vested interest in convincing you of anything, that he doesn't care what you do or think. Tempt them with emotional appeals, then play hard-to-get, so they'll react to that do half the con man's work of convincing themselves.
Yet I realize that all human are supsectible to this, this is because it is part of our dna, it is part of how society and social interaction function.

He absolves the mark of the fault of not already having what the con man offers, before revealing how the mark can win back the state of grace...
And it is not always a bad thing.
Here we see the confidence man try to pretend he's not yet opposed to what he actually is, that he is open-minded & objective.
Hillary Clinton can very much lose. Remember these types of tactics were used in 2004 by Karl Rove,
Details? Or are you just subscribing to a liberal myth, like the Southern Strategy or the October Surprise?
and Donald Trump is much more charismatic than George Bush was.

Then again Hillary Clinton can win in a landslide. It depends on how you respond, and how the audience, the american people judge these two people.

Note I am not calling republicans evil, nor am I calling Donald Trump evil. He may make a great president, yet his arguments of what is happening in the US with regards to crimes, and his use of data is FACTUALLY FALSE AND SOMETIMES SO FALSE it is PANTS ON FIRE FALSE, or COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY MISLEADING
Why don't you say what that data is, so we can see how you're skewing it? A common tactic of the left is to twist what they claim is the mean of Republicans or conservatives so they can call them liars or stupid. A big emotional claim that someone is LYING, is closer to con man tactics than rational debate.
It is theatre, and it is incorrect theater. Now theatre does not tell anyone who will be the best president, whose judgement is better, whose ability to do policy is better, etc.
Which would be a fine point to make if you were criticizing the game, instead of constantly trying to convince people that one of the players is particularly bad, rather than simply being better than the others. Bear in mind, he is up against an opponent who, in the last election, wept crocodile tears after losing an early primary, and whose campaign brought up the myth of Obama's foreign birth in the primaries.
Regardless what Donald Trump is doing with his theater in my mind is distasteful.
I think anyone who succeeded with a message you don't want to hear would elicit the same criticism, no matter how he said it.
