California voter here. And since I have only voted in my area, I'm not even sure what it is like in other parts of the state. I may be able to get this word for word.
me: "Hi."
worker: "What's your name?"
me: "<name>"
worker: <looks up name>
worker: "What street do you live on?"
me: "<street name>"
worker: "Here you go. Sign here. Here's your ballet."
I'm not even joking. Anyone could come in...and start spouting off names/streets. You could dumpster dive and get any info you need. Your neighbors are out of town? Vote for them. Easy easy easy.
I know full well that my own experiences have tainted my whole idea about the identification...because a High School has more stringent Field Trip Permission Slip security measures. And I know, from being told in person, that people vote multiple times. And even better, I overheard two people laughing about how they got in "5 or 6" votes each for Obama last time around.

I have no idea how anybody of any political persuasion could think that is ok. That seems so strange to me hearing that. I really had no idea since it has never been an issue in Michigan.
