Seriously...I never keep up with politics and in voting, I'd be choosing the person solely with whom I share the same general party views (Republican or Libertarian). I don't know any specific persons policies or what they'd change. If I don't vote, I'd allow more "knowledgeable" people to decide the system. If I do, I'm possibly hurting the system by just blindly choosing someone.

So, all that said, can someone give me a good reason (besides people fought for this right!) to actually vote despite my lack of knowledge?


i would argue that just voting for someone you think shares your general world view is at least a minor form of "knowledgeable", and your lack of effort to vote simply means you have no desire to exercise your right. there are elections at the local level which come down to the double digits in which literally every vote matters to determine a winner. by not participating, you are saying that you actually don't have a strong feeling to try to decide what set of beliefs you want your government to represent in your name. because when it's all said and done, everything that every level of government does is as a representative of you as a taxpayer.
