Though, assuming that things turn out as I hope and the referendum is defeated, the devo-max promised by the UK government should help to console the independence camp - if the Yes camp wins, I'm not sure there's anything that will console the No camp, except maybe the very bitter Schadenfreude of seeing the pipe dreams of the nationalists dashed to pieces before the independence even begins (as I recently read somewhere, it would be awful but entirely plausible if the Yes camp won, but then lost its majority even before Scotland is independent). I do hope that Salmond will live up to his recent promise of not organizing any further referenda if he loses this one - even if he only said that to galvanize people further to vote Yes this time.
