LBJ recorded a lot of his conversations so if this is they he felt you would think it would have turned up there.

If you aren't impressed by that quote (and even if proven, a single quote isn't much), the results bear his alleged assertion out. The intention expressed in that quote also explains his turnaround from fighting civil rights legislation in the Senate to signing a Civil Rights Act into law as President.
