The vehicles I see them using in Crimea are much more modern and closer to on par with some of our military transportation. Their air defense systems are of a real concern to Israel and even us which is why we flipped the F out when they arrived in Syria and why we are very concerned that they have been sold to Iran. They may have even played a role in dissuading the President from authorizing a strike, if our planes were shot down it would have been Jimmy Carter all over for the President. I'm also surprised at how many people think the Russians use AK-47s when they in fact use AK-74Ms and are now in the process of replacing those with the newer AK-100 series, several of which chamber the NATO 5.56mm round. I;m not sure about their navy, but I seem to remember a few years ago they bought one or two bad ass destroyers from France that are supposedly the best on the seas, but don't quote me on that. I would figure they are no slouch on the open seas. I think our air force is far superior, our planes, logistics and personnel cannot be matched worldwide. I seem to remember reading the Russians also now have developed their own stealth fighters as well. Needless to say, I think too many people think of the Russians as being stuck in some 80s Cold War (Cold & Hungry!) military tech and morale while we have moved on into the 21st Century. Simply not true, they have their shortcomings still but they have some badass goodies too.
