Spanish scientists have identified a human skeleton in Spain that is 400000 years old, hundreds of thousands of years older than any other fossilised remains.
Most lay persons will undoubtedly think the find and age is referring to modern homo sapiens sapiens because of the word "human" when the Denisovans were just another hominid in the species homo sapiens. The only exciting and interesting thing about this is the mystery surrounding how some Denisovans ended up in western Europe rather than Asia, which given the age probably isn't that mysterious at all - they migrated westward rather than eastward with their brethren.
