Yes. That seems to be the only way of actually closing apps.
View original postDuolingo requires a constant Internet access to work, which means I can't use it on the subway, or during my lunch break.
You also have the Wifi-only version? Yeah, personally I mostly just use my tablet at home, or else when traveling but not on public transport or anything, just in places that have Wifi. So I'm not often bothered by a lack of internet access. And it's indeed annoying that Duolingo requires internet access just to synch you to your account, when in principle most of its functionality would work fine without internet.
Buying a tablet - please chime in (from iPad to Nexus 7 to ?)

Oh. That's no good. The "night" setting might just be the app I'm using, but others might have it. *NM*

I have a Nexus 7 since a few months, I'm quite happy with it.

As I understand it, the Kindle Fire is a normal tablet - no Kindle-like eyestrain-less screen

The Nexus 7 is definitely the best bang for the buck. Maybe try to fix the problems you're having?

I've had the Nexus 7 for a while, and find it difficult to fault.

I've had it on standby with minimal use for 1 days, and the battery is 1/2 gone.
