View original postThere's nothing new here, a fairly stale blend of ultra-nationalism and religious zealotry born from preferring to view one's culture as utterly superior in spite of its rampant poverty and the position as a leper in the world achieved through whitewashing history to paint some past Utopia smashed by foreign greed, jealousy, and general wickedness.
View original postI'm wondering now if this is a common thing among the Taliban, this misguided nostalgia for the days of united India - under Muslim rulers, to be sure. In a country like Pakistan, with its rocky (to say the least) history with India, that's kind of interesting. I remember having read something about the subtleties of India's relations with the Taliban before, but sadly I can't remember now what it was.
India was the loudest critic of the Taliban before 2001, when they managed to piss off just about everyone. The Taliban had heavy ties to Kashmiri insurgents.
