Because it isn't possible that a white person means something different when saying something than a black person. Because in interview after interview with people practically begging her to admit that its all just the result of her upbringing, she has insisted, over and over again, that there is nothing wrong with what she has said, or done.
And they are giving up on that because of the overblown PC police and loose cannon liberals who make them vulnerable to insane over-reactions.
Tell you what. Why don't you point to the spot in my post where I complained about a double-standard for the use of the word "nigger"? I complained about a double standard for racist behavior toward another race - black people routinely get a pass for unabashed or admitted (or even boasted of) prejudice against other races, while white people get hammered over invented racial motivations for ambivalent or even innocent behaviors. It was not the specific of using "nigger" wherein the double-standard applies, but in Al Sharpton stirring up anti-semitic mobs years before Democratic presidential nominees had to kiss his ring, in a black congresswoman paying comfort visits to the families of black men who were credibly accused of assaulting white motorists during the LA riots, with an unquestioned racial motive during riots that were themselves racially motivated.
Blacks riot over white officers being exonerated for their treatment of a black suspect. Blacks involved in the riot single out white motorists for violent assaults. A black legislator knee-jerk defends them thoroughly and publicly. All of this is just fine. But a white actress gets lambasted for reserving judgement on Paula Deen and not jumping on the bashing bandwagon. No white politician could dare defend the LAPD officers the way Maxine Waters leaped to the defense of the men who tried to smash Reginald Denny's head with a cinder block. No white politician could accuse a black man who killed a white man of racism and cite his own common skin color with the deceased, the way Barack Obama interjected himself into the Trayvon Martin controversy.
I have no idea what else Paula Deen might have done. If she has a long and checkered past of which this incident is the subatomic particle that broke the camel's back, that might be one thing. But if you mean that with this incident, she has given them sufficient reason, you are either deluded, or referring to the mountain being made of the molehill of her behavior by those "overblown PC police or loose cannon liberals" you deny are responsible.
