The first six months I worked at a nearby Admiral gas station here in my neighborhood (a mostly black neighborhood) I completely lost track of the number of times some black guy called me "white boy" while I was at work. To them, this was completely acceptable and fine, but you know that if I had ever responded to them by calling them "black boy" I would have had my ass waffle-stomped into oblivion. THIS is just another example of American hypocrisy when it comes to race and equality.
Another example: it is bad to judge someone based on the color of their skin, unless of course it is in the context of deciding if they should get into a college, then according to Affirmative Action it is just fine to judge a black person as better than a white person.
I hate this shit. I have spent years fighting against the Klan and neo Nazis. I was part of the counter protest of the KKK back in the early 90s in Painesville OH, a counter protest that literally turned into a riot, with tear gas being launched, mounted police charging the crowds, nazis and klan-punks getting their asses kicked by us in the crowd (yes, I took part in kicking the shit out of a number of Klansmen, and do not for a second regret it, and would gladly do it again). I've helped organize other demonstrations against the Klan here in my home town of Saginaw MI on the two occasions these shits decided to have a rally on our County Courthouse steps.
As a white man (although I may have some Native American ancestry, we are still unsure about this since my father was adopted back in the late 40s) I've been accused of being a racist simply because I oppose a form of institutional racism known in America as "Affirmative Action." This from morons who never knew my personal history (from growing up going to an almost all black church to living most of my life in "black neighborhoods" and being one of those kids in high school that everyone accused of being confused and "thinking I was black". All they saw was a white man opposed to AA; so of COURSE I must be a racist.
Racism is still a problem in this country, but it is not entirely the white people who are to blame. ANYONE who judges a person based on the color of their skin is by definition acting on racism. Anyone who considers their race as their primary identifying trait is a racist. Anyone who watched the final scene of the Game of Thrones finale and first thing they thought was about the "Great White savior" imagery is a racist. Anyone who thinks someone of one race should never be able to use a certain word, but those of another race can, is a racist.
As one of my greatest heroes once said, people should be judged by the content of their character, NOT BY THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN. And I will fight for this ideal until my dying breath, AND BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY (to quote my other hero).
