While Nigerian politics are, to put it mildly, more than a little dysfunctional, the president was elected in a relatively free election, and took an entirely reasonable and mostly accurate share of the vote. And Nigeria could hardly be more dysfunctional than what Orson Scott Card seems to think the United States are like at the moment. Perhaps if he bothered to do even an absolute minimum of research before spouting off, he would manage not to be quite so unintentionally hilarious when asking "But it sure sounds plausible, doesn't it?".
Then again, based on what I've read by him, I have a hard time believing he wrote that sentence in seriousness, so it may just be an elaborate prank.
