A few serious answers, if you can handle them..... Anonymous2000 Send a noteboard - 04/04/2013 04:15:32 AM

Looks like you are in agreement that what has been tried hasn't worked.

Yes, I distrust government, but I don't disagree that "helping those in need" as being one of its core responsibilities. However, success is determined by how many people actually improve their lives, NOT how much money is spent. Compassion is NOT about spending money, but doing what it takes to make people self-reliant and independent. If you showed me a program that does this, I would agree to paid more in taxes tomorrow. But our current government programs are pathetic and a waste of money and DC only cares about buying votes and giving handouts. We have tried this for 50 years and it hasn't worked.

As for me, my wife and I donated a little under $10k in 2012 to various charities, mostly local. We are very big supporters of our town's food pantry and EMS squad. And if you really want to get down to it, I can mention my soon-to-be daughter who was abandoned in China when she was one day old. But I don't think we need to go there, right?

And I will be polite and refrain from asking you the same question.

View original postsince you are so wealthy you had to pay the AMT, how much of your money did you donate to charities which deal with helping the poor? how are you, personally, making their lives better since you don't trust the government to handle it? stop bitching and do something about it for a change.
