And frankly I still haven't got a clue why he even responded to the first post, but no I do not see how his comment was clear, possibly because I have absolutely no idea what he is driving at. Other than that he's being fairly rude while going about it, or seemed so to me. There's a surprising amount of activity in what should be a very short thread about a very simple question.

Anyway, yeah quite a few protestant ministers attend years of post-graduate and get doctorates, I admit that Doctor of Divinity, D.D. has a somewhat humorous ring to it but it is one of the oldest doctorates around, as Divinitatis Doctor, but that isn't the degree most get, usually it is a Th.D., Doctor of Theology, or just a Ph.D., usually the latter I believe. In the US anyway. IIRC MLK has a Ph.D. in systematic theology and his undergrad was in sociology, my net's loading slow this morning so I can't wiki that to be sure. It's not too uncommon though, quite a few of the ministers and pastors I know have Dr. at the front of their title and since it was originally meant principally for clergy I suspect they'd not be cheerful about foregoing it.
