How will you feel if you get him in trouble at work and find out his great aunt Mildred gave it to him? You are not his keeper and it isn't your responsibility to either turn him in or to help him see the error of his ways. If you really think he stole it then get your money back and tell him he is an asshole for selling you stolen goods. The take a little of the blame yourself for buying it when you knew it was questionable. After that either get over it or find a new friend.
