If you have the slow Walking Dead style zombie and 50 of them come around a corner 100 yards away you can beat a strategic retreat while taking out the closer ones with a few well placed head shots.

OK now let’s assume those zombies are as fast as the living and 50 of them suddenly appear 100 yards away. You can run, you will have run at a near sprint to stay ahead of the fastest ones. How long can you sprint? Even seen how wolves take down caribou? Or you can shoot. The faster ones will be on top of you in about 10 seconds and the majority in about 14 seconds. Do you really think you can make 50 well placed head shots in 14 seconds? Try to hit 50 different stationary targets at spread out over 100 yards in 14 seconds.

Fast aggressive zombies that can do things like sprint, climb and rip apart barricades will require a plan B.
