The Packers D was gassed though; they could not have kept Peterson out of the endzone w/o the clock.

But it was so close!
Yet Macharius is also right; he is still young (though most backs in the modern NFL are living on borrowed time once they hit 30) and could still well get the record. After all, the Vikings STILL have almost nothing else on offense (though one cannot help wondering if they would have run Peterson so much if Percy Harvin had not missed so many games with injury.) What sucks is you could see it coming: Just outside of FG range in a tie game with the Pack sucking wind, the Vikings were obviously going to go to Peterson, and he was going to get them there—but with time running down he had to reach the endzone (or at least the 3) to get the record, because once they got close the Vikings had no choice but to run the clock down and kick the game-winner as time expired.
Though had they called time out and run Peterson again, I sincerely doubt the Packers could have stopped him. Oh, well; at least they are still alive.
Which just makes me think of the choking Cowboys, and Houston forcing themselves to play the next week (when they NEED time off to get healthy) then spend the rest of the playoffs on the road. Well, the Broncos have homefield, so I will just have to pin my hopes on them stopping Brady (though the history of Manning vs. Brady makes that a very tense hope.)

I'm not a fan of either team, but even I was disappointed about that.

You seem to have forgotten that football is a team game.

No, I remember what the Rams and Colts were like in the early '80s.

The Dickerson trade was in the strike year. His replacement took over as NFC-leading rusher...

Ah, it was better to see them win in regular time than for something to go pearshaped in overtime.
