At least half the country believes they should be able to keep their guns, and the Constitution protects them. This is the flip side of the abortion debate - the Left will never win no matter what it does. The best that it could hope for is to foment a civil war between the gun-owning populace and those who think that guns should be banned. Guess who would win that?

we've reached the point where we have more guns than ever before and yet massacres are more frequent than ever as well. with all the guns around, at some point statistics would dictate that someone with a gun would be in the vicinity of one of these massacres but yet more guns have yet to solve the problem.

and, look at all the reports within the last few months of parents accidentally shooting their own children because they were spooked and/or thought their kid was a burglar. at some point, sanity needs to win out or else we are never going to stop having these events no matter how many guns would make the NRA happy.
