"Live fast, die young and leave a good-looking corpse," "it's better to burn out than fade away" etc

there are very few examples of these shooters who have stayed alive after their rampage, for the express purpose of telling their stories to the media. anders breivik is the only one in recent memory, because he had a clear agenda he thought he was fulfilling and he relished the media attention to his manifesto. everyone else have just been people who snapped and had a gun (or two or more) at hand to allow themselves to have such a deadly legacy.
By your logic the so-called 27 Club would not exist. Doing what they do as they do it ensures lasting infamy but (they believe/hope) spares them lasting consequences.
the "so-called 27 Club" is a media invention drawing a correlation between unrelated people. it's not like musicians are *trying* to get into this club after all. but i'd wager in every single one of these mass shootings with the exception of breivik and seung-hui cho, they did not go into it hoping for media celebrity.
Any of those ring a bell? Saying no mass murderers were fame-seekers EXCEPT those who were is a tautology meaning nothing. Between terrorists trying to promote their twisted agendas and pariahs trying to "show" the rest of humanity they consider mortal foes, the hope of celebrity has driven MANY mass murderers. Look at people like the Zodiac and other serial killers who send letters to newspapers bragging of their crimes and taunting law enforcement as inferiors. Why did Mark David Chapman kill John Lennon? Because he thought it would impress Jody Foster, but how did he know she would even find out about it? Because it would put his name alongside Lennons in every headline.
Sadly, murdering a bunch of people almost guarantees getting ones name in the paper, which says as much about the rest of society as it does mass murderers. Entertainment networks broadcast fictional sex and violence because audiences demonstrably demand it, and many mass murderers commit shocking horrors precisely because they know it stirs morbid curiosity in "sane" members of society.

if they were after fame, they would probably all have tried to stay alive after killing everyone

I frequently confuse that detail of Hinckleys shooting with Chapmans, sorry.

Chapman wasn't a mass murderer, though. Neither was Hinckley.

True, but it does demonstrate how easily and frequently notoriety motivates shootings.
