Are we talking the state of not agreeing with a viewpoint, stance, conviction, or belief.....

Or talking about active *hate* of that viewpoint, stance, conviction, or belief and the people who support it?

There is a world of difference. On one hand, an individual disagrees with an ideal and on the other hand, an individual hate both the ideal and person.

Homophobia has a definition. Sure, if you're terrified of gays the same way you fear spiders, you probably are "homophobic". But most commonly it's just used to refer to actively hating gays. I don't get what problem HyogaRott has with that definition since he's the one who berated Joel about semantics and not understanding what some words meant.
Simply disagreeing with one or another gay rights viewpoint is not homophobic at all. At least not to me. But sometimes it's pretty damn tricky to judge what a person's opinions are based on.
Scalia's comments seem like a glaring example of harmful homophobia. Not that I care, I've never heard of the man or expect to ever hear of him again. The one thing that this thread taught me is that Americans have a keen interest towards their constitution. It's almost obsessive.

WTF does "I don’t care what their intent was. I care what it was that they intended" mean? - 11/12/2012 09:03:23 PM 553 Views
Yeah I read that twice to see if that was right *NM* - 11/12/2012 09:36:55 PM 269 Views
Part of me pities Scalias decline, because he could once nimbly and convincly argue black is white. - 12/12/2012 07:09:56 PM 526 Views

Lol. Homophobia is synonymous w/ homonegativism. It's not meant to convey a true phobia *NM* - 13/12/2012 03:28:01 PM 333 Views
