I am about as Anglophile as they come, as I dare say you may have noticed...

but some things are hard to resist poking fun at. The losing streak at Wimbledon being one of those things - and you know, there's a reason why Wimbledon's tennis club is called the "All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club".
It's funny you should take that example, because Eddy Merckx is one of those rare things around which all Belgians can unite, kind of like Belgian fries that way (or the national football team, now that they don't suck for the first time in two decades). With many other Belgians that you could name, the suggestion of them being not properly Belgian would actually make a lot of sense - and some, like some Scotsmen, would indeed prefer not to be called that.
Anyhow, of course I agree that Murray is British, especially since he doesn't seem to be one of those Scots who would rather *not* be British - but still they are, at least for the time being.
Murray is British, it really is that simple - the whole argument makes as much sense to me as suggesting Eddy Merckx isn't properly Belgian, since some Belgians want to break up Belgium and some Belgians are just trying to claim him as they're desperate.

So, I found this video explaining the differences between The UK, Great Britain, England, etc.

Mostly that's an indication of just how desperate they were before that happened.

Kind of, but not precisely. It's probably the easiest way to look at it, though. *NM*
