After over seventy years with no wins in their own Grand Slam or any other, I dare say they'd have worshipped any even remotely British man who finally got a win, even if he was from the Falklands, Bermuda, Jersey or some other funny part of the United Kingdom.

That, and of course the Scots never deny that they are British, they merely dislike being told so. Although a fair part of them does want to become independent and hopes to stop being British as a result; if Murray had been among those, perhaps things would've been different.
