i think it's the flip side of "force the other party to vote for terrible legislation so you can trumpet how bad they are at <insert buzzword legislation here>". both sides employ these strategies and in the world of washington politics, the adage about absolute power comes true about every 6-10 years. at that point people get up and vote in the other party and we get these articles about how "it's the end of the dems/repubs forever" again.
