Some online banking systems (those that tend to install a piece of software on your machine for security) can have difficulties with the iPad. This is becoming rarer and rarer as most banks are paranoid about iPad users not being able to access their online banking. A quick search of some popular NZ boards will tell you if anyone is having any problems.
It's quite possible that your parents bank will already have an app for their online banking. It's worthwhile checking out if that is the case and looking at any reviews of such apps.
